For Sculptographer Anna Church, Beauty is Where You Find It

Cassatt Beauty

CASSIE Meets: Anna Church, Artist & Founder, Curate + Covet Collective

CASSIE: Where do you find yourself seeing beauty where others may not?

AC: I find beauty in the overlooked, the dried roadside plant with its sculptural form, the fragments and materials deemed of no use. A catalyst for my imagination, these disregards hold hidden materials for me to work with, waiting to be noticed, transformed, and sculpted into something other.

CASSIE: How have you made what you “do for a living” be a reflection of your evolved self?

AC: I love to learn on the job. I give myself a theme and develop a visual around it. My work, concepts, and materials are always shifting. I push boundaries, never play it safe, and trust the process of figuring it out as I go. In keeping myself continuously challenged, my work becomes the very place where I evolve and I love bringing my audience and collectors along for the ride!

CASSIE: Who have you met that you felt an instant affinity towards, admire their creative spirit and are doing amazing things?

AC: Recently, I established an art appreciation platform, Curate + Covet Collective, where I've connected to Toronto’s artist talent to collaborate with me. It's a platform that creates opportunities for artists to be seen in styled homes for sale, showrooms, spaces where life actually unfolds. It’s becoming another place for artists, collectors, and design-lovers to connect, cross-pollinate, and discover and experience art beyond gallery walls within our community.

CASSIE: Where do you like to go and what do you do to feel at peace?

AC: I LOVE to daydream and see where my ideas lead me! Daydreaming becomes a practice in consciousness, noticing ideas as they arise, letting them shift and expand, and following where they lead. It’s in those moments of awareness and the wonder of an outcome that I feel most alive, most at peace, and most myself.

CASSIE:  What are 3 things that you’ve recently enjoyed that you would recommend to your best friends over dinner?

AC: Discovering a wealth of Toronto Artistic Talent. PEC's food scene. A daily walk listening to a book or podcast (highly recommend Diary of a CEO and The Mighty Pursuit). And meditating, I do my best to get a few moments of time to do so, both morning and night.

CASSIE: The skincare habit that you swear by?

AC: I have a very basic skin care regimen, less is more. I love cleansing my face at night and popping on a simple serum or night cream. I also LOVE Saie Glowy Super Gel, which I wear on the daily!

CASSIE: What do you look forward to about turning or having turned 50? Is there something you are “owning”?

AC: I’m 48, and I feel like I continue to blossom and evolve with each year that passes. I look forward to stepping even more fully into that growth and taking ownership of who I’m becoming, discovering the truest essence of me.
